The Chōsen Bungaku No Kai (朝鮮文学の会 Society of Korean Literature) was an academic group with members including Masuo Omura, who was then studying law at Waseda University, Noboru Kajii, Setsuko Ishikawa, Shokichi Cho, Akira Yamada, and Hisashi Ogura. The group undertook the task of translating Korean literature and published the literary coterie magazine Joseon munhak – sogaewa yeongu (조선문학―소개와 연구 Korean literature – introduction and research). Hyeondae Joseon munhakseon 1 (현대조선문학선 1 Selected Works of Modern Korean Literature Ⅰ) features translations of 13 works of Korean fiction, including Nam Jung-hyun’s “Bunji” (분지 Land of excrement). The translator and editor of this anthology are listed as the Chōsen Bungaku No Kai, and the explanatory notes have been written by Yun Hak-jun.
