Korean Literature Now (KLN), a literary journal produced and distributed to introduce Korean literature and writers to the general public and experts abroad and form a discourse on Korean literature, accepts and publishes publishers’ and literary critics’ reviews of translated works of Korean literature that have been published outside of Korea. This is a review of the Chinese translation of Kim Choyeop’s If We Can’t Go at the Speed of Light.

This is a Cover Feature essay on the theme of KLN Vol. 68, “Stories from the Road to Adulthood.” In “The Dangers of Alienating a Character,” writer Lee Jongsan reflects on the process of writing his novel The Book Club Paper Folding Club, revealing a heartfelt confession about personal growth as he breaks down ignorance and prejudice while bridging his past, present, and teenage years through writing novels.

KLN Vol. 66 features two main themes: a special feature on Han Kang, the 2024 Nobel laureate in Literature and the cover feature “On Growing Old.” In the special feature on Han Kang, six translators, including Deborah Smith (who translated The Vegetarian into English), a literary critic, and an editor discuss Han and her literary world. In the Cover Feature essays, a literary critic and two writers discuss the theme “On Growing Old.” This issue also features an interview with the Featured Writer Jin Eun-young, ten of her poems, and an essay on her works. The Bookmark section features the short stories “Guarded by Light” by Cho Hae-jin and “Lingering Feelings” by Park Seon Woo, as well as two poems each by poets Choi Ji Eun and Sin Yong-Mok. In the Inkstone section, the final installment of the English translation of the Record of the Virtue of Queen Inhyeon, Lady Min has been published. A panel of reviewers made up of a literary critic, writers, a translator, and an editor has reviewed five works: Dog Days by Keum Suk Gendry-Kim, Walking Practice by Dolki Min, Taking my Voice by Chung Serang, Counterweight by Djuna, and Counsel Culture by Kim Hye-jin.

The English-language quarterly Korean Literature Now (KLN) Vol. 68 highlights Featured Writer Oh Eun, presenting an interview, a selection of his poems, and a review of his works. The Cover Feature includes five essays on the theme “Stories from the Road to Adulthood,” written by literary critic Cho Hyungrae, and writers Lee Kkoch-nim, Moon Kyeong-min, Lee Jongsan, and Pyo Myunghee. The issue also presents short stories by Ye Soyeon and Moon Jinyoung, poems by Lee Young-ju and Han Yeojin, as well as five reviews of translated Korean books.
