Plot

Jeong-mi and U-yeong become lovers after a long time and promise to spend their future together. U-yeong gives up his wealth and honor to live with Jeong-mi, but misfortune strikes the two of them who are in love. One day, their house catches fire, and U-yeong goes into the fire to save Jeong-mi. He dies after saving Jeong-mi. In despair after U-yeong's death, Jeong-mi resents the world, but eventually she prepares for a new life, thinking of U-yeong's love for her.

This is a novel by Kim Hain, published in 2001. Like the author’s previous work Gukhwakkot hyanggi (Scent of chrysanthemum), this novel emphasizes the positive effect of love on humans and conveys the meaning of pure love to those who view love in a cynical way.

2001년에 출간된 김하인의 장편소설이다. 이 작품은 작가의 전작인 <국화꽃 향기>와 마찬가지로 사랑이 인간에게 끼치는 긍정적인 영향에 대해서 강조하고 사랑을 냉소적으로 바라보는 사람들에게 순수한 사랑의 의미를 전달하고 있다.
