女性たちの才能は「呪い」であった。朝鮮王朝時代の女流画家師任堂が残した絹の包みに隠された過去とは。良妻賢母であれという束縛から主人公の魂を解き放ち、女性たちの内面の葛藤を描いて話題となったクォン・ジエの力作を初邦訳。
朝鮮王朝時代の村。官僚の娘として生まれた主人公は豊かな芸術的才能をもっていた。祝宴の席で文才に溢れる少女、踊りの得意な少女と出会い、三人は友人となった。ある日、主人公の目の前に、知性とたくましさを兼ね備えた少年が現れる。彼は官僚の妾の子だった。少年に惹かれながらも、身分違いの結婚を許されない主人公は芸術の世界に没頭する。やがて少女三人はそれぞれの運命にむけて歩き始める。
