1. 도입부
진은영(1970년~)은 대한민국의 시인이자 철학자이다. 이화여자대학교 철학과 및 같은 과 대학원을 졸업했다. 박사 학위 논문은 《니체와 차이의 철학》이다. 2000년 《문학과사회》 봄호에 〈커다란 창고가 있는 집〉 외 3편의 시를 발표하면서 시단에 나왔다. 시인 최승자는 진은영을 두고 “드디어 나를 정말로 잇는 시인이 나왔다”고 말한 바 있다. 현대문학상, 천상병 시문학상, 대산문학상 등을 수상했다. 현재 한국상담대학원대학교 전임교수이다.
2. 생애
진은영(1970년~)은 대한민국의 시인이자 철학자이다. 대전에서 태어났다. 이화여자대학교 철학과 및 같은 과 대학원을 졸업했다. 박사 학위 논문은 《니체와 차이의 철학》이다. 2000년 《문학과사회》 봄호에 〈커다란 창고가 있는 집〉 외 3편의 시를 발표하면서 시단에 나왔다. 시집 《일곱 개의 단어로 된 사전》(2003), 《우리는 매일매일》(2008), 《훔쳐가는 노래》 (2012)를 출간했다. 인문학 연구 공동체 ‘수유 너머’에 속해 있으면서 철학책 《순수이성비판, 이성을 법정에 세우다》(2004), 《니체, 영원회귀와 차이의 철학》(2007)을 출간했다. 2008년 <감각적인 것의 분배 : 2000년대 시에 대하여>를 발표했다. 랑시에르를 인용하여 시와 정치성의 관계를 논한 이 글은 문단에 일대 파문을 일으켰다. 그리고 훗날 이 글이 수록된 책 <문학의 아토포스>(2014)를 출간했다. 현대문학상, 천상병 시문학상, 대산문학상 등을 수상했다. 현재 한국상담대학원대학교 전임교수이다.
3. 작품세계
진은영은 익숙한 일상을 새로운 감각으로 표현하는 데 능한 시인이다. 그녀는 예술가이자 철학자로서의 이상적인 삶과 고단한 현실을 함께 자각하고 그것을 미학적으로 표현한다. 그녀의 시는 짧다. 메시지의 전달에 급급하기보다는, 최소한의 어휘와 간명한 표현만을 씀으로써 감각의 떨림을 증폭시키려 하기 때문이다.
이광호는 진은영의 시가 “90년대 시의 서정적 동일성을 거부하면서, 아직 제도화되지 않은 시적 발화의 숨죽인 목소리와 분열된 육성을 드러낸다”고 평했다. 과연 진은영의 시에는 ‘분열된 육성’이라고 할만한, 현대인의 감각을 보기 좋게 배반하는 구절들이 많이 있다. 종종 그녀는 오감 중 어느 하나에도 복속되지 않은 공감각적인 비유를 만들어낸다. 그녀의 비유는 어떤 대상의 본질이 무엇이라고 독자를 계도시키는 대신, 독자가 스스로 한 순간의 야릇한 감흥을 느끼게끔 유도한다. 때문에 그녀의 시에서는 아이의 장난기 가득한 천진함, 경계 없는 상상력, 물렁물렁 유연한 사고의 힘 같은 것이 느껴진다.
이런 특성은 진은영의 시 전반에 이어지는 것이지만, 그녀의 세 번째 시집 『훔쳐가는 노래』에서는 사회학적 상상력과 시적 정치성이 어우러진 감각을 선사하는 작품이 부쩍 늘었다. 이 시집을 내기 전부터 진은영은 사회를 투박하게 비판하는 선동(agitation) 시를 쓰지 않으면서 사회적 문제에 대해 발언할 수 있는 방안을 논구해왔다. 『훔쳐가는 노래』는 그런 고민의 결과물이라고 할 만하다. 그녀는 현실을 냉철하게 파악하면서 사유를 발전시킨다. 그리고 그 사유를 진부하지 않게 표현해낸다. 그리고 세상에 있는 상처를 깊이 들여다보고, 참신한 비유를 창조함으로써 모순투성이의 세상의 균열을 표현한다.

1. Introduction
Jin Eun-young (Hangul 진은영; born 1970) is a South Korean poet and philosopher. She majored in philosophy at Ewha Womans' University for both her undergraduate and postgraduate studies. She wrote her doctoral dissertation on "Nichewa chaiui cheorak" (니체와 차이의 철학), or "Nietzsche and the Philosophy of Difference." She made her literary debut when "Keodaran changoga itneun jip" (커다란 창고가 있는 집 The House with the Large Shed) and three of her other poems were published in the 2000 Spring Issue of Literature and Society. She has been praised by the poet Choi Seung-ja, who said “I’ve finally found a poet whom I can call my true successor." Jin is the winner of the Hyundae Literary Award, Cheon Sang-byeong Poetry Prize, and Daesan Literary Award, among others. She currently teaches at the Korea Counseling Graduate University.
2. Life
Jin Eun-young was born in Daejeon, South Korea in 1970. She received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in philosophy at Ewha Womans' University. She wrote her doctoral dissertation on "Nichewa chaiui cheorak" (니체와 차이의 철학), or "Nietzsche and the Philosophy of Difference." She began her literary career when Literature and Society published "Keodaran changoga itneun jip" (커다란 창고가 있는 집 The House with the Large Shed) and three of her other poems in its 2000 Spring Issue. She has three poetry collections published to date: Ilgop gaeui daneoro dwen sajeon (일곱 개의 단어로 된 사전 A Dictionary Made of Seven Words) (2003), Urineun maeilmaeil (우리는 매일매일 Everyday, We) (2008), and Humcheoganeun norae (훔쳐가는 노래 Stealing Away Song) (2012). As a member of Suyu Neomeo, a research community for humanities scholars in South Korea, Jin wrote two philosophy books, namely, Sunsuiseongbipan, iseongeul beopjeonge seuda (순수이성비판, 이성을 법정에 세우다 Critique of Pure Reason: Taking Reason to Court) (2004) and Niche, yeongweonhwegiwa chaieui cheolhak (니체, 영원회귀와 차이의 철학 Nietzsche, Eternal Return and the Philosophy of Difference) (2007). In 2008, her article "Gamgakjeogin geosui bunbae: 2000 nyeondae sie daehayeo" (감각적인 것의 분배: 2000년대 시에 대하여 Distribution of the Sensible: On the Poetry of the 2000s) was published. Referring to Rancière in discussing the relationship between poetry and politics, the article caused a stir in the South Korean literary scene. Jin cited the article years later in her book Munhagui atopos (문학의 아토포스 The Atopos of Literature), which was published in 2014. She has been awarded a number of accolades including the Hyundae Literary Award, Cheon Sang-byeong Poetry Prize, and Daesan Literary Award. She currently teaches at the Korea Counseling Graduate University.
3. Writing
Jin Eun-young is a poet who is adept at portraying familiar and mundane subjects with a new sensibility. As an artist-cum-philosopher, she recognizes both the romantic and realistic sides of the two professions and expresses them artistically. Her poems tend to be short because she prefers using words simply and sparingly to create a powerful sensory experience, rather than being overly concerned with sending readers a certain message.
Literary critic Lee Gwang-ho remarked on Jin's poetry that it "defies the sentimental conformity of poems written in the 1990s, and is delivered in the hushed whisper and cracking voice of poetic expression that has not yet been institutionialized," referring to how her poetry flies in the face of contemporary sensibilities. She often creates synesthetic metaphors that cannot fall under any one of the five senses. Her metaphors don’t try to teach readers the essence of anything; rather, they allow readers to be seized by a curious, fleeting sensation. This is why her poems have been noted for their playful innocence, boundless imagination, and power of uninhibited thought.
While these characteristics are found throughout her work, her third poetry collection Humcheoganeun norae (훔쳐가는 노래 Stealing Away Song) includes a significant number of poems that combine sociological imagination with political poetry. Even before writing this collection, Jin endeavored to find ways to discuss social issues without writing poems that stir up public agitation with blunt criticisms of society. Such efforts resulted in Humcheoganeun norae. In her work, Jin depicts the scars and contradictions of the world through unconventional metaphors.
