From November 9 to 13, the Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTI Korea) held a Korean literary event at the Foire du livre de Brive, and supported the participation of author Kim Un-su (whose short story anthology Jab! Was recently published in France) at the event.
First held in 1973, the Foire de livre du Brive is now one of France’s premier book festivals. Kim was joined by over 300 writers from France and overseas at the festival, which was held from November 9 to 11. Kim had the chance to engage with local readers and held an autograph session. On November 10, Kim and Italian novelist Luca di Filvio co-featured at an event titled ‘Littérature du monde entier’ (Literature of the World). Kim also spoke about Korean literature and his works to over 80 audience members at an event emceed by Bérengère Mazurie.

On November 12, the Korean Cultural Center in Paris hosted a reading session for Kim’s short story anthology Jab!. Over 60 people were in attendance, including publishers and local readers. Professional stage performer Clémence Jacquine read excerpts from the French translation of not only the title story Jab!, but also <Locked in the Safe>, <We Dry Flowers Because we have Become Worthless>, <Composition Class for Beginners>, <The Story of a Sofa>, and <Mouth of the River>. The event was an immersive experience for readers, who responded with enthusiasm.

On November 13, Kim gave a lecture at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) to students of Korean Studies and Oriental Studies. Emceed by Professor Jeong Eun Jin of the Korean Language Department, the event was attended by approximately 200 students and featured an introduction to Kim and his work, readings from his stories, and a question and answer session. Students had the chance to learn about and discuss Kim’s body of work and translations thereof.
