The Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTI Korea) (President: Kim Seong-kon) participated in the 2017 Frankfurt Book Fair, which took place from October 11 to 15. Held annually every October, the event is the largest book fair in the world and celebrated its 69th anniversary this year. Approximately 7300 organizations from 102 countries took part in this year’s event, with 286,000 in attendance—a 3% increase from the previous year. France was the Guest of Honor at this year’s fair. LTI Korea set up a booth in the Korea Hall to promote its activities by displaying 49 Korean classics that have been published overseas, and held meetings with 25 publishers from 8 countries (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Romania, the US, the UK, Sweden, and Australia) to continue engaging with the overseas market. Several large publishers, including Kein und Aber of Switzerland, Simon & Schuster of the US, and Humanitas of Romania expressed a keen interest in Korean literature, and in active participation in translation, publication, and author exchange programs backed by LTI Korea. LTI Korea will continue to deepen mainstream readers’ interest in Korean literature by fully utilizing local publisher networks.
