LTI Korea organized a translation workshop at University of Málaga (UMA, Universidad de Málaga) in Spain from December 14 to 16. During the 3-month-long workshop 10 students of the university translated Pyun Hye Young’s short-story “To the Kennels” under the guidance of Prof. Antonio Doménech of the Korean Studies Department. Pyun Hye Young joined the workshop on the last four days and gave a special lecture on the topic “To Become Similar Willingly,” helping the students to understand her writing in general and the short story in particular. The students asked Pyun several questions about the story, including questions about the story’s title, her wordings, and aspects of Korean culture and of the city of Seoul that appear in the story. At the end of the discussion, the students made presentations on their translations. On December 14, LTI Korea held the prize distribution ceremony for the 8th Korean Literature Essay Contest in Spain. The participating students wrote essays on Pyun’s Bodies. Janire Domínguez Andrades from University of Málaga (UMA, Universidad de Málaga)’s English Literature Department won the 1st prize this year.
