LTI Korea held promotional events, including a translation seminar, from November 26–December 1 in and Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.On November 26, LTI Korea held a seminar on the topic “Reading Vietnamese Translations of Korean Literature” at Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities attended by academics, translators and publishing experts, such as Prof. Ahn Kyong Hwan from Chosun University, translators Ha Minh Thanh, Nguyen Le Thu, Nghiem Thu Huong, Nguyen Thi Hien, and Le Dang Hoan, and critic Nguyen Anh Ngan, Bui Phan Anh Thu, and writer Y Ban. The participants made presentations and held discussions on Vietnamese translations of works by Hwang Sun-Won, Park Wansuh, and Kim Young-ha. On November 27, LTI Korea held a special lecture by writer Jeong Yu-jeong at Vietnam National University – Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The Vietnamese translation of Jeong’s A Night of Seven Years was published in January, 2015 and is enjoying great sales in Vietnam. The lecture kicked off with a traditional Arirang fan dance performed by the students of the Korean Studies Department, following which Jeong spoke on the topic “What is a story and how does a writer construct it?” A Q&A session and a quiz on Korean literature was held at the end of the lecture. On November 30, Jeong attended a promotional event organized by Tre Publishing House Co Ltd, titled “Meeting of Korean and Vietnamese Authors,” along with Vietnamese writer Ho Anh Thai. The event featured enriching discussions, book readings, Q&A sessions and book signings. On December 1, LTI Korea organized an event featuring Jeong Yu-jeong and Ho Anh Thai at Ho Chi Minh City University to promote literary exchange between Korean and Vietnamese writers. The event included book readings, discussion and interviews. Following this, a workshop on Korean and Vietnamese literature was held, which was attended by the Dean of the university, literary critics and literary translators. Presentations and discussions on diverse topics such as “Globalization of Korean Literature in Connection with Korean Studies Programs in Vietnam” and “Vietnamese Literature in Korea” were held. This event generated a lot of interest from the local media, with major broadcasters like HTV, DNRTV, BTV, and VTC10 covering it.
