LTI Korea organized a literary event in Dublin on May 23 with writer Eun Heekyung as part of the International Literature Festival in Dublin.

The International Literature Festival is Ireland’s biggest literary festival first held in 1998 in Dublin, a UNESCO City of Literature. This year it was held from May 16 to 25. The festival offered literary buffs the chance to participate in a wide range of events like book readings, discussion and workshops attended by writers from all over the world.

As part of the festival, LTI Korea organized a Korean literature event with the assistance of the Korean Embassy in Ireland. Eun Heekyung read excerpts from her story “Beauty Despises Me,” following which she participated in a discussion with Martina Devlin, Irish poet and Assistant Director at the Irish Writers Center. There was Q&A session next, in which Eun explained her literary worldview to the Dublin audience, followed by a book signing session.

The event was held at the historic Smock Alley Theatre in downtown Dublin at 2pm and the audience members were given brochures containing translations of the writer’s short stories “Beauty Despises Me” and “Discovery of Solitude” and copies of LTI Korea’s quarterly _list: Books from Korea.

The event, attended by around 80 people, including Christine Dwyer Hickey, the moderator of LTI Korea’s event at the festival last year, and Gaelic poet Seamus Barra O’Suillieabhain, proved to be a valuable opportunity for LTI Korea to promote Korean literature and build local networks.
