Night
BY Lee Si-young TRANSLATED BY Brother Anthony of Taizé & Yoo Hui-sok
One winter’s night in the highlands, a snowstorm raging, a swollen-bellied sheep was giving birth to a lamb but it was carefully gathered up by a man, instead of the sheep. The lamb that emerged head-first bathed in amniotic fluid could not stand the initial cold of the outside world and lay shivering in the man’s embrace; its eyes so like its mother’s were remarkably dark. The man’s eyes too, in the starlight, shone exceptionally bright.
