Sbírka přináší poezii korejského básníka Ko Una, kandidáta na Nobelovu cenu za literaturu, který se během korejské války a další desetiletí potuloval po celé Koreji jako žebravý mnich. Koncem 60. let se přerodil v politického aktivistu a disidenta, čtyřikrát vězněného, ve třetím případě byl odsouzen na patnáct let. Dnes je ale Ko Un přítelem současného korejského prezidenta i řady dalších významných politických osobností. Ve svých básních však Ko Un rozvíjí především tradici korejské zenové poezie, založené na detailním a do paradoxů dovedeném zachycení scenérie či prožitku. Born in 1933 in a small village in Korea's North Cholla Province, Ko Un grew up in a Japanese-controlled land that was soon to experience the horrors of the Korean War. He became a Buddhist monk in 1952 and began writing in the late 1950s. This is his major, ongoing work which began during his imprisonment with a determination to describe every person he had ever met. Maninbo, as it is known in Korea is now in its 20th volume and he has plans for five more before its completion. Collected here is a selection from the first 10 volumes.

Este libro que la Universidad que presido tiene el placer y el honor de editar el libro de un poeta, y como todo libro de quien es verdaderamente poeta, es en sí mismo una conmemoración del ser humano. Explora Ko Un el agridulce gozo del encuentro con la vida y lo que aquí presentamos es una expresión de ese gozo que nos toca muy de cerca, porque recoge un poema inédito suyo escrito en el año 2007 cuando invitado por la Universidad y el Ayuntamiento de Málaga, escribió el poema a nuestra ciudad que da título al libro.  Málaga milenaria y su mar para el poeta, son un espacio de encuentros, de reconciliaciones, de paisajes que nos expresan. Los casi tres mil años de esta ciudad sirven también de metáfora del mundo y de cómo todos, individuos y culturas, somos resultado de miles de combinaciones de gentes y de ideas.
