1957년 전라남도 담양에서 태어났다. 1984년 《실천문학》을 통해 등단하였다. 시집 『바람 부는 솔숲에 사랑은 머물고』, 『새벽 들』, 『사람의 등불』, 『날랜 사랑』, 『앞강도 야위는 이 그리움』, 『그때 휘파람새가 울었다』, 『쪽빛 문장』, 『꽃의 권력』, 『고요를 시청하다』 등이 있고, 시론집 『주옥시편』, 『시간의 말』과 산문집 『쌀밥의 힘』, 『사람의 길은 하늘에 닿는다』, 『감탄과 연민』 등을 출간했다. 신동엽문학상, 시와시학상 젊은시인상, 소월시문학상, 영랑시문학상 등을 수상하였으며, 계간 《시와사람》, 《문학들》 주간, 광주전남작가회의 회장과 한국작가회의 부이사장을 역임하였다.

Born in Damyang, South Jeolla Province in 1957, Koh Jaejong made his literary debut in 1984 by publishing his poems in Silcheon Munhak. He is the author of the poetry collections In the Windy Pine Grove Love Stays, The Field of the Dawn, The Lamp of People, Swift Love, The River Wanes with Longing, Then the Bush Warbler Sang, Indigo Blue Sentences, The Power of Flowers, and I Watch the Calm; the collections of critical essays Poetic Germs, and Language of Time; and the prose collections The Power of Rice, The Road of People Reaches the Sky, and Admiration and Sympathy. He has received multiple literary accolades including the Sin Dong-yup Prize for Literature, Poetry & Poetics Prize for Young Poets, Sowol Poetry Award, and Yeong-rang Poetry Award. Koh previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Poetry and People and Literatures, Director of the Writers Association of Gwangju Jeonnam, and Vice-chairman of the Writers Association of Korea.
